Only 15,000 new people downloaded the Gauteng e-Panic button in 10 months By Luis Monzon

The growth of the Gauteng e-Panic button app has slowed significantly over the last year, with only around 15,000 new downloads in the last 10 months.

Private security companies operating in the province could be to blame, according to the custodians of the e-Panic button plan, the Gauteng Department of e-Government.

The department told MyBroadband that it recognised the slow growth compared to the initial period following the launch.

“One of the factors the department is taking into consideration is the increasingly competitive environment in the panic-button and emergency-response space,” it said.
